asher was in his gym class once again which was not one of his best subjects. he didn't like when things depended on brawn instead of brain. but luckily they were playing basketball today so he just had to run around a bit and make it look as though he was putting in an effort. as long as he did that he would easily get an A in the class. by the time the class was over everyone but him were sweaty and rushing to the showers. he was glad to be done with everything and he left the locker room with all his things in hand. now that he finally had a break asher walked over to his locker to put some of his books away. the hallways always got crowded so quickly when the bell rang and asher always had to move fast to get out of the way. after spending the last year or so being home schooled he forgot what it was like to be in a crowded hall surrounded by people his age. reaching his locker he put in the combination and opened it. as he began to put away his things the guy who's locker was next to him came with his big group of friends and started to open his. asher hated when they were at their lockers at the same time because his friends always surrounded them both as they had some conversation regarding a sport that he honestly didn't really care about. but they never bothered him so he didn't mind them that much.
grabbing one more book he closed his locker and began walking towards the library. most students just found somewhere to hang out during their break but asher always went to the library to get a head start on whatever work he had to do. asher was already ahead of most of his classes but he wanted to make sure that he kept that lead and nothing got in the way of that. opening the familiar library doors he waved to the librarian who he had become friends with the first week of school. they talked about all sorts of books that they both read and were constantly giving each other recommendations. other than his sister the librarian was probably the person he talked to the most in the school. walking through the library asher went to the table in the back where he always sat and did his work around this time. taking a seat he put his bag down on the table and got out some of his books putting them on the table. now he was going to work on english so he took out the book they were reading and continued from where he had left off.

it was third period and once again, mckinley moriarti was skipping her biology class. today she had decided to mosey on over to the library and browse through some of the endless books on fashion. thank god for being at a high end high school. she never understood why she needed science and math classes if she was obviously born to go to school for design. her mother told her it was just something that she had to get through, and that it would be over before she knew it. mckinely wasn't exacly one that was big on patience, though. she knew what she was born to do in life, yet high school forced stupid grades and pressures of gpas and sat testing and placement tests... all mckinley wanted to do was dress up and dress other people up. why did she need to know about solar energy and the square root of the third power of x to do that?
anyway, school was dumb. but mckinely was stuck there for at least the next two years... gag. she might as well make the most out of it though and so that's just what mckinley did. she thumbed through a book on alexander mqueen for a bit, tracing the details on the page lightly with her hand. wonder if mcqueen had to take stupid biology classes in high school?
mckinley's eyes soon wandered from the book at hand to her surroundings. people watching was one of her favorite past times. mckinley watched a blonde cheerleader flip through a magazine, then noted a dark, goth kid listening to something extremely loud in his headphones before her brown eyes fell on a more familiar face. it was the boy that sat next to her in her history class.. ashton maybe? no, asher. yeah, that sounded right. without hesitation, mckinley closed the book she was previously looking at and walked over to the familiar boy.
he was different, that much she had already been able to tell. he didn't talk much and he seemed to be extremely smart. he had to be if he spent his free time reading in the library. "hey!" mckinley greeted, sitting down next to the boy, "asher, right? she tried her best to keep her voice low due to their current location, but it wasn't all that easy for mckinley to do.

asher looked up not sure who was talking to him. maybe the librarian had come over with another book to recommend. but instead of a forty something year old librarian it was someone his own age. he was pretty sure he sat next to this girl in history class but they had never actually spoken to each other. but asher was use to that because he never bothered to make friends. he just stared at her for a second when he realized he should be responding to what she was saying. the surprise was just getting the better of him at the moment. yeah, and you're mckinley right? he said positive that it was her name. she was the type of girl that always seemed to have someone's attention on her. even asher who normally paid no attention to the people in his class couldn't help but be drawn to her because of her personality. she was the type that was always speaking her opinions not caring if nobody agreed with her. she always seemed to be talking in class but never to him so he wasn't sure why this situation was different. if it was any other student asher would have assumed they either wanted to know what the homework was or wanted to copy off of him. but school didn't seem to be a big priority to mckinley so asher was just completely lost to why she was sitting next to him of all places. looking around the library he was pretty sure there were other people here that she would have better conversation with.
he had to admit he was jealous of the way she carried herself always honest with how she actually felt. asher on the other hand kept his feelings to himself not wanting to bother with people. it was just hard making friends when you spent most of your life obsession over being in someone else's shadow. he knew that he had promised his mother that he would really try and to change things and make friends. that hadn't really happened yet but it was still the beginning of the semester and he was sure he could change things. okay, well he wasn't sure but he was hoping he could change things. rubbing the back of his neck asher wasn't sure what was going on. was he suppose to stop reading and start talking to her now? if he continued to read would that mean she'd go away? there were so many possibilities but he had no idea what he was supposed to do. he decided he would just sit here patiently and wait until she told him what she wanted. but the suspense and the curiosity was going to kill him if she didn't hurry up and tell him what she wanted.
